The ??? Emperor (Apatura ilia) leads a life similar to the one of the Purple Emperor: It lives in the tops of trees, so you will hardly ever come across this species. In addition, the species occurs much rarer than the Purple Emperor. |
While
the female shows a pattern of light-colored bands and eye-spots on a brown
background, the wings of the males can show an iridescent blue, depending
on the angle of incident light.
So also in this species, the genders quite differ by their colour. |
