Two things
also a
willow-herb hawk-moth (Proserpinus proserpinus)
can do very well: to hide and to bluff.
Only at second sight one realizes that two moths rest on this bark. The upper one is flashing its warning colours. A pattern of yellow and black colours commonly is displayed by insects that have a poisonous sting or are poisonous when eaten. Those colors communicate "danger!" to their addressee. Hawk-moths neither have a sting nor are they poisonous. They profit from simply imitating harmful insects. |
