The World of Minibeasts

How Flies Do it: Flirting

...would you like an antenna massage? This ritual is also known of other families, such as Sciomyzidae, for example the species Coremacera marginata. Before doing so, the male places its front feet at the inner margin of the female's eyes.
From the top, you can recognize the spread wings of the female and the spread middle legs of the male. His front feet sit exactly at the front rim of the female's eyes.

They remain in this position for quite a while, while the female keeps dancing. In contrast to Platystoma seminationis the male does not retract his legs.
