In contrast to the previous picture, these chrysalises hang upside down from the blossom of a thistle. A freshly stripped chrysalis is of bright yellow colour. In the run of its development it changes to orange with black patches. Beside, it tends to curl. The beetle hatching from the chrysalis also is yellowish at first. Only after hours adopts the typical colors. Soon after hatching the insect starts feeding again - as the larva it feeds on aphids. |
