Under the dead ladybird there is the cocoon produced by the braconid
after leaving the ladybirds body. But the braconid did not get as far
as an adult insect. Before it could hatch, it was eaten by an ichneumonid of the genus Gelis. If you look precisely at the cocoon, there is a little hole at its top. A braconid would have cut a lid and lifted it off the cocoon. So no braconid hatched from the cocoon, but the ant-like ichneumonid next to it. |
