A short time later the (?Chalcididae) started to hatch. The first ones to appear were the ones that had been able to take up as much food as possible, thus being able to to develop quickly. Probably, not all larvae developed. The last ones may not have found enough food left to finish their development. Still, the number of individuals developing in this single caterpillar is amazing. José counted about 1.600 specimen. No average parasite can produce 1.600 eggs in one go. How could they turn out in this large number? |
